Kochi
(colonial name Cochin)is a vibrant city situated on the south-west coast of the Indian peninsula in the breathtakingly scenic and prosperous state of Kerala, hailed as 'God's Own Country'. Its strategic importance over the centuries is underlined by the sobriquet Queen of the Arabian Sea. Informally, Cochin is also referred to as the Gateway to Kerala.

Later proceed for sightseeing.

Fort Cochin -Cochin is a busy port round the year and one can always see merchant ships anchored in the sea off Fort Cochin awaiting berth. A familiar sight here is a fisherman using nets with Chinese contraptions. These nets can be found at the entrance to the harbor along the backwaters. Strung out along the tip of the island are the fixed, cantilevered Chinese Fishing Nets. These nets were introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan.

Mattancherry Palace - built by the Portuguese in 1555, the palace was presented to the Raja of Cochin, Veer Kerala Varma (1537-61), as a gesture of goodwill and probably as a means of securing trading privileges. The Palace was renovated by the Dutch in 1663, hence the alternate name of 'Dutch Palace', and though at no time did the Dutch actually stay there! It is a two-storey building that surrounds a courtyard containing a Hindu temple. At the centre of the palace is the Coronation Hall that has a display of dresses, turbans, palanquins and weapons from that era.

Jewish Synagogue - located at Mattancherry, this synagogue built in 1568 by the prosperous Jewish community, is the oldest in India. It was partially destroyed by the Portuguese in the war of 1662 and was rebuilt by the Dutch. One of its interesting features is the hand painted willow pattern floor tiles brought from Canton in China in mid 18th century and no two tiles are alike.

Evening watch the dance drama of Kerala “Kathakali “

Kathakali dance in one of the theatre. Kathakali is one of the traditional dance forms of Kerala. In early days the dance was performed at the temples on festival occasions.
